Keep On Truckin’…
Solo Show at artgenève, January 24 - 28, 2024
"Keep on Truckin'..." is the bronze sculpture that gives its title to Léonard von Muralt's solo exhibition at Art Genève. It is inspired by the characters drawn by Robert Crumb and widely adopted by hippie culture. The sculpture walks with a caricatured step that can seem over-confident, raising questions about the limits of collective optimism and our stubborn will to progress.
Echoing this, the five resin figures in the 'Hi-Yo' ensemble seem to be struggling to make themselves heard.
At the same time, the artist is presenting several paintings in different formats, all created using the same stippling technique, combining influences from medieval illumination and Do It Yourself methods. The interlacing evokes the idea of decorative art that is more concerned with representing the cosmos than with cosmetics, while symbolising social links and mutual influences in the image of feedback loops.
"Keep on Trucking" ironises the idiomatic expression that encourages us to persevere whatever the cost, inviting viewers to reflect on the need for this kind of posture, which is at odds with the uncertain, twilight atmosphere of our times.
